Continuous Service Soldier with Main Task as Diver in Subarctic Environment

Are you curious and want to develop both within and outside your position? We are looking for a continuous service soldier with the main task as a diver in a subarctic environment for the National Training Department at I 19 and the Swedish Armed Forces Winter Unit in Boden.

The position offers an opportunity to develop in the function of diving in a subarctic environment where you will work with national and international courses, developing diving capabilities in the Army.

Specific tests and selections required for diving service are mainly conducted in Boden. In addition to FM FysS supplementary requirements level 3, specific requirements for water divers are also included. Submarine medical examinations and pressure testing are conducted in Karlskrona.

After tests and selections, you will undergo training to become a field work diver, with a large part of the training taking place in Karlskrona.

About the Unit

The FM Winter Unit contributes to the Swedish Armed Forces operational units being able to operate in all climate areas, particularly in subarctic environments. The unit is located in Boden and is organized under the Norrbotten Regiment I 19. The FM Winter Unit consists of a command group and three departments; national and international training department and development department. You will belong to the national training department.

Main Responsibilities

  • Participate and support projects within the subarctic climate, primarily within the function of field work diving
  • Support during courses in subarctic environments
  • Participate in courses in subarctic environments, primarily diving courses but also courses within winter capabilities
  • The position also includes participation in joint Swedish Armed Forces projects, educational moments, and being a competence support
  • Participate in Swedish Armed Forces safety inspections regarding cold weather

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • FM FysS supplementary requirements level 1
  • Swimming test 400m
  • Rescue 50m depth over 3m, max 2min 30s
  • Good ability to express oneself in speech and writing (Swedish/English)
  • Driver's license minimum B

Personal Qualities

We are looking for a flexible person who enjoys collaborating with others. You are communicative in your working style and find it easy to create relationships in the workplace. The position also requires a good ability to structure and independence to continuously plan, execute, and evaluate operations. You need to be stress-resistant and have a high safety awareness. You have a positive attitude towards physical training as this is part of the tasks in the Swedish Armed Forces. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

MERITORIOUS

  • Military or civilian diving education
  • Military driving license for snowmobiles, tracked vehicles, and heavy trucks with trailers.
  • Military group or platoon leadership training
  • Transport of Dangerous Goods - ADR
  • Good personal skills (weapons, physical performance ability, FUSA/SUSA (unit training/live ammunition training).
  • Languages other than English and Swedish
  • Good experience of working in a subarctic climate

Employment form: The employment is a permanent position that begins with a 6-month probationary period.
Employment rate: Full-time
Work location: Boden. In service at the Swedish Armed Forces Winter Unit, there will also be periodic service at other locations within and outside the country.
Start date: By agreement.

The position entails primary placement as GSS/K at the Swedish Armed Forces Winter Unit in Boden in the national training department, but sometimes also service at other locations within the framework of the Swedish Armed Forces Winter Unit's tasks. The position includes the ability to participate in international missions.

About I 19

I 19 is one of Sweden's largest regiments with operations in Boden, Kiruna, Tåme, and Grubbnäsudden/Lomben. The main location and management for the regiment is in Boden.

The regiment's most important task is to build combat units, and in the coming years, I 19 will gradually develop the new Norrbotten Brigade. By 2028, the regiment should be able to train, stockpile, and mobilize the entire brigade, including the associated functional units; command, field works, air defense, and logistics. The brigade should be able to fight in all environments but be specialized for combat in the subarctic environment of the Nordic region.

The regiment also includes the Swedish Armed Forces Winter Unit, which has the task of coordinating and supporting the development of the Swedish Armed Forces' winter capabilities.

The conscription training is conducted at the Norrbotten Armored Battalion, which is responsible for training and maintaining units for the Norrbotten Brigade. The regiment also consists of the regimental staff, the Armed Forces Health Service, the Garrison Support Unit, the Logistics Unit, and the Local Planning Unit.
